Ceiling and roof water damage repair addresses water intrusion that's come from above – a roof leak, ice dam, or attic condensation issue that's caused staining, sagging, or structural damage to ceilings and the roof structure itself. Because the water source is above the visible damage, this repair often means addressing both the ceiling damage you can see and the roof or attic issue that caused it, or the problem simply comes back.
Signs you need this include brown or yellow water stains spreading across ceiling drywall, a ceiling that feels soft or sags slightly when touched, peeling paint or bubbling drywall tape near the ceiling line, or visible water dripping during or after rain. If the staining keeps returning after you've painted over it, that's a clear sign the source hasn't actually been fixed, just the symptom covered up.
We start by identifying the actual source of water intrusion, which usually means getting into the attic or onto the roof to trace the leak back to its origin rather than just addressing the ceiling damage in isolation. Once the source is identified and addressed – whether that's a roof repair, flashing fix, or ventilation issue – we assess the ceiling damage itself, which can range from a cosmetic patch and repaint to full drywall replacement if the material has been compromised for an extended period. We check insulation in the affected area too, since wet insulation loses effectiveness and often needs replacement alongside the ceiling repair.
Cost depends on the extent of ceiling damage, whether structural framing above the ceiling was affected, and what's needed to actually fix the source of the leak. Homes in Saint Petersburg, FL with attic or roof-related water intrusion sometimes need the roofing issue addressed as a separate but related repair alongside the ceiling work itself.
